Yes, I did it. I am slowly adding some items back to my shop. I know I am too late to benefit from the annual Christmas rush, but when the stars align............. (that would be my mood, time, and products) I just had to go for it. So keep me in mind for next year, or for a spring birthday.... .or if you just need to treat yourself! (and I know I need to work on my banner, I just have no skills in that area and get frustrated with all the cropping and trying and so I just quit and go with the best of the bad. The screen shot of the shop also is cut in half here in blogworld. It is a good thing I know how to sew since my computer skills are somewhat lacking. )

at my house......

...............the upstairs guest bedroom gets turned into a "wrapping center" and "gift holding station" this time of year. I had purchased a few vintage buttons pins at the Nokomis Craft Fair a few weeks ago and had most of them wrapped and under the tree but I kept one in the spare room just in case I needed a quick gift.

Turns out I did - for myself. I decided it was the perfect accessory for a grey sweater I wanted to wear today, the only problem is that when I
went to open the guest bedroom door it was locked.

What? Who locked the door? What is going on? My mind immediately starts to whirl with questions and run through scenarios (which involved either secret gifts or huge messes!) Then I notice Aidan sitting on the couch with a strange wire in his hands. A wire? Suddenly a little light bulb goes on in my head as I remember him asking random vendors at the No-Coast if they have a paper clip to spare. He was concerned we might need to unlock a door somewhere and wanted to be ready. (and yes, one kind vendor donated a paper clip to his cause and he proceeded to try and open every locked door he saw for the rest of the evening. )

So back to my living room conversation.

Me -"Aidan, do you know anything about this locked door?"

Aidan (nonchalantly) "Oh yeah mom, I was practicing breaking into doors. So I locked it to see if I could get back in."

Me - "Well, could you?"

Aidan, "Nope, my trick didn't work. Sorry."

So Aidan tried, James tried, I tried and the door remains locked. What I don't understand is how my sweet friend Steph was able to break open that very same lock after googling instructions during a babysitting-incident-gone-bad a few months ago. (Don't worry, she is a great babysitter, she didn't lock my kid up in a bedroom, she accidentally locked her dog in there and frantically starting calling people for help eventually finding the answers on Google. So no offense Steph, but if you can do it under emotional duress than I would think that James, (an engineer) myself, (a pretty self-sufficient handy-women) and Aidan (a budding criminal, er, scientist) should be able to get in..........

In the meantime someone (that would be you, Steph) had a broach waiting under the Christmas tree so guess what I wore to work today. (that's the beauty of gift bags, if I hadn't told you would never have known!)

I can't complain

about how busy I am because it is of my own doing. It is hard enough to balance family, friends and work, and then throw planning and participating in an art fair and orchestrating a big celebration for nurses week into the mix along with a sick kid (and a sick me) and you end up with piles of dust on the floor and a trail of threads throughout my house.

Next week, however, will be a different story. I will clean my house, put away my Easter decorations, work in my yard and sit. As a matter of fact I plan on spending an entire day sitting on my deck in the sun reading a book.

In the meantime here is a little peak at what I have been doing the past few weeks. Sadly we haven't had much sun so my pictures aren't the greatest. So if you want to see the real beauty of these bags you might have to come to the art fair tomorrow.

I made two of these bags out of dish towels I picked up at Anthro on clearance last year. I love them, and they each have a little vintage stickpin for some added embellishment.

Since the art fair is at a Chinese school I thought it only fitting that I sew using some oriental fabrics. I admit I am not exactly a big fan of oriental design, but I think this vintage barkcloth is a great blend of the vintage (that I love) and oriental influence (that hopefully my shoppers will love!) I am counting on them being a hit; I have five different bags made from this fabric. I am sad to say I used it all up....... so please don't ask me for a custom order! I have my eye on one and part of me is hoping it doesn't sell.

Here's a blurry picture of my sewing room doors. And this is only a small taste of what I have been working on.
Hope to see some of you tomorrow!

Finally!

I updated my Etsy site. Check it out!

I also need to recommend this salad to you. I have made it a few times in the past week, and it has met rave reviews. I usually don't like to mess much with fresh fruit - I prefer to eat it the way it is - but this salad leaves me wanting more every time!

Spring Market

This event is coming soon, and I have nothing ready! I keep finding other things to do at night when I should be sewing...... like looking at wedding blogs.......... and suddenly it is only a few weeks away. Thankfully today I had a whole day to myself, helping out at Carla's studio, and I was able to cut out 20 bags. I am totally loaded up on caffeine right now, so I am hoping for a profitable night!

So.....

I was just sitting down at the computer this week to try and figure out our Christmas card pictures, when I decided to waste some time on Facebook.

But when I logged on and started reading all the updates, I found that a local friend has just launched her own business. She was a graphic designer and is now a SAHM. (and also happens to be the cousin of one of my favorite people in the world!) So - problem solved. No hours online, no frustration uploading pictures to Target.com, no frustration with our outdated system. (every year we do our own cards and every year James has to go to Best Buy for some upgrade to be able to convert our picture to JPEG or something like that. I really have no clue.) But now, it doesn't matter. I can pick them up sometime later this week.

AND- they match my Christmas wrapping and gifts tags. (don't even laugh at me!!!!!!)

AND- I think she is going to make labels for all our homemade liqueurs too!

AND - she just added about 10 hours back into my life.

What more can I ask for?????

In case

you have been racking your brain all weekend trying to solve my lip balm problems, you can put your mind at ease. I did a little more tinkering......... and Voila!

We have lip blam! Very similar to Burt's Bee's, I might add. Mmmm! I love it! I hope some other people will too, because I made almost 30 pots of it. Guess what all of you are getting for Christmas this year.

I also found the time to finish this lap quilt while I caught up on Boston Legal via ABC.com. Whatever else you may think about that show, I laugh out loud every time I watch it. Especially at 12:00 am while I am finishing up projects in my sewing room.

AND - if you are in need of some fall warmth in your living or dining room, you can pick up one of these fabric banners at my Etsy shop.

We were all laying low this weekend as we were a little under the weather, but looking back, I guess I managed to get alot done. I hope you all had a great weekend too.

This is where

I spent my day.

I would love to say I sold out, but I have to admit, today's show was a bust. I have participated in this show two years in a row now....... I am not thinking I see a third in my future.

But the good news is I have plenty of items to restock the shops I am in, and I have a jump start on my next show, which promises to be much more successful. I also was able to catch up on some reading and sort through my massive piles of mail and magazines.

I am trying to branch out from bags this year and have more of a variety of items. Scarves have been a big hit, and I have also made some mittens, cloth napkins, dish towels, baby blankets, onesies, bibs..... all sorts of items. I had hoped to come home today with a good feel for how those other items would sell, but no such luck.
Next time, right?
