I hope you don't mind,

I have more cooking pictures. I can't help it, it's just what we do.

Aidan has been talking/pondering death quite a bit recently, and last week he asked me in a very-matter-of-fact manner, "So Mom, if you died, who would clean our house?" Of course, I then launched into a long lecture, eventually summarizing that just because his daddy doesn't clean, doesn't mean it isn't done. We also talked about cooking and I gave him examples of men we know, (like my dad and brother, or Izzy's dad, or his friend Will's dad) and that they all know how to cook quite well, and that someday he, Aidan, can be a cooking, cleaning women's dream.

And thus we cook. (and clean too, he even has his own dust-rag.)

I have also discovered that he will eat the food he makes, no matter how un-kidlike it is. When he helps me chop, stir and taste I can get him to eat almost anything.

Last week we made tomato soup, one of my favorite foods, but not normally something he likes. However since he had the fun job of running the immersion blender, he thought the soup was pretty "awesome!" His word, not mine. (Also, you can click here for a recipe I posted last year for tomato soup, but I must say, this years is even better, I might need to post my latest edition.)

He also wanted to wear an apron like I usually do, and all we had was a plastic one that came in an art kit. So he asked me quite nicely if I could make him an apron. Last week we went to the Crafty Planet, and he picked out his own fabric for his very own apron! I am sure you can guess that James was thrilled.

We have already put the apron to good use. This weekend we made homemade noodles to go in our beef stew. So good. Too bad you weren't here to enjoy a bowlful with us.

Hey, if he enjoys it why not foster it? Plus, those times are good relationship builders.
My boy is more into cooking than my girls. Wish we could come over and cook with you. =)(Or just eat your cooking.)

And that apron couldn't be CUTER!

Seeing photos of Aidan is always a treat. Never worry about your faithful readers overdosing on that cute little face and stories.

On an entirely different subject, is anyone thinking about Christmas yet? I had decided against coming to Iowa because airfares are so high, but I just found a ticket for $455 from Cancun to Minneapolis for 12/15 -12/25. I have to be back in Merida to host a conference on Jan 3 so that cuts the time short but the price is right. Let me know what, if anything, anyone is thinking about. Thanks...

we talked about christmas at work the other day - the big guns are trying to decide how many days we can close, how many staff if they keep us open, what would it do to the vacation budget....i've marked the calendar saying i'm gone. jacob called last night and said they're planning to be there. naphtali has the time off. sounds like a plan.
